Pregnant and packing bag for hospitalisation

Most mothers will advise you to pack your hospital bags a few weeks before your due date. This will help you avoid last minute shopping and packing stress and ensure that you are prepared in the event that your baby comes sooner.  Have your bag ready and set it aside so that you can just grab it and put it in the car without having to stop and pack first.

A trolley bag is best if your bag is heavy. Your husband can easily drag the bag from the parking lot into the ward. This will make life easier for you both.

Ideally, you should have one bag with everything you need in it. Too much luggage can make it awkward to handle. Remember, your husband will have to take care of you and the bag. Besides, there is no need for more than one bag, as you will only be in hospital for two to three days.

Some hospitals allow husbands to stay. Pack everything he needs in the one side of the bag so that he won’t have to go home during the hospital stay. It will also help you both to easily find whatever you need.

Keep your cellphones, camera, credit cards and hospital documents handy in a separate pocket of your luggage. However, you should be careful to secure these personal items once you are admitted. Ask about a safe to store your valuables. Most mothers opt to leave jewellery home, as there’s no need for it in the hospital.
