Help! Smells make me nauseous
Pregnancy comes with a malady of strange sensations and symptoms, which include the sudden urge to vomit when you smell certain foods or other fragrances.
Your body undergoes various changes during pregnancy and this includes your smell and taste buds having new preferences. You might even crave foods that you don’t like.
It is normal for a pregnant woman to have a heightened sense of smell and this could make you highly sensitive to both pleasant smells and bad odours. This aversion may cause you to feel unwell. You might have trouble preparing food for your family, as smelling the food while it cooks might make you nauseous. Some ladies even faint when pregnancy affects their senses of smell and taste.
One of the most pesky pregnancy symptoms is the fact that your body will become averse to certain smells. This aversion is often to things that you used to like before you fell pregnant. While the aversions may diminish as the pregnancy progresses, it is possible that it will continue throughout your pregnancy.
You might send your husband out to buy something that you start to crave in the middle of the night, just to reject it the moment you smell or taste it. This is often the cause of the “sympathetic pregnant father belly” which develops when he has to eat all the food you reject.
Even smells meant to enhance the air may put you off. Some women cannot stand the smell of pandan leaves in the Singaporan taxis or air fresheners in cars and lifts. Of all these smells, though, food is probably the biggest culprit.
Some women develop an aversion to the smell of their husbands’ colognes. They would be fine throughout the day, but the moment their husbands enter the home after work, they would start to vomit. Fortunately, most husbands are quite understanding during this time.
While this heightened sense of smell and taste could make life miserable during pregnancy, remember that it is completely normal. Before you know it, you will be your old self and hopefully return to your old preferences.https://www.babyclub.com.sg/help-smells-nauseous/https://www.babyclub.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/nausea.jpghttps://www.babyclub.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/nausea-150x150.jpgPregnancyPregnancy comes with a malady of strange sensations and symptoms, which include the sudden urge to vomit when you smell certain foods or other fragrances.
