Nausea and vomiting are quite common during the early stages of pregnancy. While this is normally mild, there are instances where this can be severe. In these cases, it might be necessary to be hospitalized. Patients are normally placed on a drip and not given solid foods until they are better. It is important to get to the doctor as soon as possible if the nausea and vomiting persists.

In most cases, women can manage the discomfort of nausea and vomiting without any medical intervention. Women will usually avoid food during this time until they feel that they are able to eat food again. The good news is that by the 3rd month of pregnancy, the nausea and vomiting will subside.

Most women find that certain foods are acceptable to them during this first 3rd of the pregnancy. They will experiment with certain foods until they discover the foods that they can handle. Most women avoid excessively oily foods as these foods tend to bring about nausea. Some women prefer savory foods and others head for the sweeter variety of foods such as ice-cream and desserts. It is very common for pregnant women to crave comfort foods during this time. Crackers and jello are a firm favorite with many expectant moms.

One trick to avoid nausea is to eat smaller portions more regularly throughout the day. Taking small bites and eating only until they feel satisfied.

Try to rest as much as possible as this will help to keep nausea at bay.

Pregnant women should stay away from foods that do not like. While it may be possible to eat these foods while not pregnant and feel okay, this may not be the case during pregnancy. It takes very little to spark off nausea during the first 3 months of pregnancy.

It is wise to see your physician regularly during this time. He or she will monitor you carefully to ensure that your pregnancy goes as smoothly as possible. He will monitor the baby and expectant mother to ensure the health of both mother and child.
